Istanbul nowadays is the capital of Turkey. The culture of Istanbul has its basis in the city that has been the capital of the Byzantine and Ottoman Empires. It is a popular destination for tourists from all over the world. The most important sight to visit is Hagia Sophia, a church that was built during the Byzantine era.
Istikal is one of the biggest shopping streets of the city which ends in Taksim square. Istanbul also has many outstanding outdoor markets and unique‘’pazaria’’. The most famous ‘’pazari’’ is Kapali carsi.
Istanbul also has famous gastronomy with a variety of salty and sweet tastes to try. The Turks are only allowed to eat lump meat, chicken and all kinds of sea food. The flavors are really interesting and different and we had the chance to taste many local goods. Unfortunately, we found out that due to their religion, pork and alcohol are banned.
